Gemma Watkins is an experienced Peripatetic Piano Teacher working; at home, student’s homes or in school.  Formerly with Taunton Music Services, Emarty Academy and has been teaching piano and music for 17 years piano. Her passion for the piano shines through having studied at a very young age due to having a musical father who has been a school teacher and is a Church Minister.

Gemma has participated in Junior Arts Festivals as a solo, as part of a duet and group. She was lead violinist at Worle Comprehensive School, Churchill 6th Form and participated in SASSO orchestra in Weston-super-mare. Most recent live performances include: Harvest home festival with the Lipinski’s,  a variety of functions (weddings, birthdays), London fashion week. Gemma acts as deputy musician and has worked with Ear Candy. Is available for functions either as solo performer or has part of a band. Currently leader singer for Mike Gillet (Gillett guitars).

Classically trained, her experience of working with children and adults has been from a very young age; starting work at Keywest Music Shop aged 15 working under the mantle of Technics Music Academy for 5 years before taking to private piano tuition. Gemma has undergone extensive one to one tuition with Jonathan James (conductor and Phd Music Education at Goldsmiths), who trained her through grade 8 receiving merit award and is undergoing her music diploma through ABRSM.

Gemma specialise in working with Trinity and London College of Music. Her students who have participated in Technics Music Academy Festivals have gone on to win UK national final awards. She has 100% pass rate for all piano and music exams entered. Gemma has had experience in organising concerts and presentations for students as part of Keywest Music Shop.

Her method is a basic set of musical principles which underpin her piano teaching. Her philosophy and method is “to give a guiding way of keeping educational process alive”.

My Teaching Approach
I believe that music should be loved and enjoyed by each individual whilst developing a sound technical ability. To be pushed to achieve the goals as agreed by tutor and pupil.
